DIGITISATION AND SCANNING TECHNICIAN (PHOTOGRAPHY & I.T.) – CENTRAL LONDON BASED

Due to recent company growth, TownsWeb Archiving Ltd (TWA) is looking to recruit a Digitisation and Scanning Technician to join our Central London based studios.

This position involves the scanning and photography (digitisation) of historical material using specialist scanners, cameras, software, hardware and other equipment. The material that is being digitised is generally old, fragile and unique. The material might include historic books, artwork, maps, photographs, 35mm slides and film etc.

TWA’s reputation of providing the highest quality service and trust ensures that our clients are varied and include some of the most recognised names and brands across corporate archives, galleries, libraries, archives and museums found anywhere in the world.

Although an interest and experience in I.T. and photography is preferable, experience is not required and full training will be provided. TWA have developed a training and development programme which means that over a period of time the successful applicant will be given the skills, knowledge and confidence to handle precious archive material carefully and to utilise the very specialist capture equipment and software TWA use.

NOTE: Initial training for this position will take place at our HQ in Kettering (Northamptonshire). It is expected that this will take up to 4 weeks. You will then work full-time from our Central London based studios with occasional requirements for further visits & training to our Kettering HQ.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Scanning and photography (digitisation) of historical customer material at TWA’s studios in London
  • Indexing and first level rigorous quality checking of image files before being passed for second level quality checks
  • Processing of images using in-house developed software and 3rd party products such as Photoshop
  • Occasional digitisation of historical customer material at TWA’s Kettering HQ or our customer’s premises (could be anywhere in the UK and may involve driving and occasional overnight stays)
  • Occasional visit to customer sites to:
    • Help with the technical aspects of assessing a new project
    • Collect and return archive material (some manual lifting is involved)
  • Updating internal / client systems and databases
  • Capture and transfer of data using Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word etc.)
  • Keeping customers informed of project progress (by phone/email)
  • Helping to schedule work
  • Working closely with our Software Development team when the digitised content is to be published on the client’s website via TWA’s Digital Archive Management System – PastView.

Candidate Profile

Must have attributes:

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to maintain client and company confidentiality
  • Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Well-spoken with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong I.T. skills with experience of Microsoft Office and Graphics Packages (e.g. Adobe Photoshop etc.)
  • A good academic record
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player but equally happy to work alone
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Confident and self-motivated with good organisational skills
  • Good time-keeping and time management skills
  • Energetic, outgoing, reliable with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • A willingness to do overtime as and when required (evenings, weekends)

Preferable (but not essential) attributes:

  • UK driving license and own vehicle
  • Good all-round IT. knowledge including experience of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom (or similar)
  • A knowledge and understanding of image formats (TIFF, Jpeg, PDF, OCR etc.)
  • An understanding and practical experience of using various Scanners and Digital Cameras (exposure, shutter speeds etc.)

Working hours are 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday although a willingness to work overtime and shift-patterns is also required. You will be entitled to 21 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Salary

Between £22,000 to £25,000 depending upon experience.

Project & Customer Service Manager (PCSM)

Due to the recent company growth, TownsWeb Archiving Ltd (TWA) is looking to recruit a Project & Customer Service Manager to join our team based at our HQ in Kettering, Northamptonshire.

The company is also well positioned to offer an exciting and new service to the UK public and has plans to launch a new and completely innovative web portal.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will work as part of a team with the Sales, Marketing, Software and Digitisation Studio Departments to manage and monitor projects including timescales, resource and internal reporting as well as communicating with clients on a daily basis to ensure they are kept up to date with their project’s progress.

Day-to-day Project & Customer Service Management Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overarching responsibility for client projects across multiple departments

Customer Service:

  • Building strong relationships with existing and new customers
  • Overseeing service delivery, ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Initiating a project review over the phone & gather feedback
  • Escalating issues or concerns as appropriate with the different departments
  • Creating project scope documents and all additional project planning resources
  • Ensuring that the client completes feedback forms

Digitisation Project Management:

  • Resourcing, planning of projects and managing the workload of the Digitisation Studio Team. Including managing absence (sickness/leave) and also recruitment, development and motivation of staff.
  • Allocating physical resources including purchasing new cameras/scanners/hardware/software etc.

Web & Software Project Management:

  • Assisting and supporting the I.T. Manager in the planning and fulfilment of Web & Software projects – providing the same level of internal/external service across both Digitisation and also Web & Software projects
  • Coordinating team resource requirements with the I.T. Manager to help with the project planning process

Sales Project Management:

  • Occasionally visiting prospective clients with the Sales Executive, to provide technical input in to a project
  • Providing the Sales & Quotations team with information relating to current and prospective timescales/resource requirements
  • Establishing an ‘onboarding procedure’ that will be discussed with every new customer/project
  • Establishing a ‘project completion procedure’ that will cover asking for project feedback, testimonials, input for case studies and more
  • Taking over responsibility for reviewing and approving quotations
  • Taking over responsibility for writing job specifications

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years project management experience which includes the creation, delivery and tracking of project plans, project change requests and project lists ensuring projects run to time and to budget and that a customer’s KPI’s are met
  • Has worked to and achieved given targets
  • PMP/Prince Certification and/or Agile Project Management Experience
  • Experience with:
    • Managing numerous projects at any one time (both large and small projects)
    • Relatively complex bespoke web and software projects
    • Dealing with both external customers and internal teams on a day to day basis
    • Working with sales & quotation teams to consider and help provide costings for prospective projects
    • Working with sale, management, internal departments and the customer to write detailed project specifications
    • Working with marketing teams to create onboarding procedures and end of project questions to help write and deliver promotional content for a given project
  • Managing staff resource including:
    • Hiring, firing, restructuring & implementing shift patterns
    • Absence/leave/sickness
  • Managing equipment resource including the sourcing, trialling and purchase of new hardware and software

Content Writer & Digital Marketing Role (Part-Time)

Reporting directly to the head of the marketing, the successful candidate will work as part of the marketing team, with the following responsibilities

Content Writing Responsibilities

  • Research and create engaging content focussing on the cultural heritage sector, including TownsWeb Archiving’s core services; archive digitisation and it’s digital archive publishing software, PastView.
  • Create various types of content, including; industry-related blog posts, press releases and industry event reviews for the TownsWeb Archiving blog
  • Coordinating with both the account management team and clients to create engaging case studies
  • Write clear marketing copy to promote our products/services
  • Prepare well-structured blogs and publishing these using Content Management Systems
  • Proofread and edit blog posts before publication
  • Conduct simple keyword research and use SEO guidelines to increase web traffic
  • Promote content via email marketing and social media channels
  • Ensure all-around consistency (style, fonts, images and tone)
  • Create content for printed material such as brochures and leaflets.

Digital Marketing Responsibilities (Experience not essential)

  • Email marketing: Creating campaigns to promote our content, initiatives and events
  • SEO: Optimising our websites to rank highly in organic search
  • Social media: Managing our presence and promoting campaigns across social platforms
  • Website: Updating and maintaining our websites via our content management system
  • Reporting: Analysis and reporting on campaigns and marketing KPIs
  • Other responsibilities include assisting with handling events, exhibition bookings and collaborating with external graphic designers to produce marketing materials (i.e. flyers, brochures, business cards)

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Superb organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Strong copywriting skills – including excellent style, spelling and grammar
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in a similar content writing or digital marketing role

  • Experience using an email marketing software (such as Constant Contact, MailChimp)
  • Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and and Adobe InDesign
  • A degree or similar level qualification in English literature/marketing/public relations/journalism or similar

Working Arrangements

Working arrangements are flexible, between 16 – 20 hours per week on consecutive days preferred.

Salary

£18,000 – £22,000 pro-rata, depending upon experience.
