Background

From 2010 the annual Army List (Part I) is now delivered electronically and is termed the E-Army List.

The E-Army List is published for the Ministry of Defence (MOD) Army Heritage Branch by TownsWeb Archiving Ltd.

Prior to 2010 the Army List was published within printed book form and was divided into three parts as follows:

  • Part I – Contains details of major Defence and Army appointments, headquarters, establishments and agencies and regimental and corps lists of officers of the British Regular and Territorial Armies.  Part I also contains details of affiliated institutions and of Commonwealth government and military forces represented in the United Kingdom.
  • Part II – Contains an alphabetical list of non-effective officers in receipt of retired pay.  The full list is published triennially, the intervening years being covered by a supplement.
  • Part III – Contains biographical entries of officers on the active List of the Regular Army (a Restricted document).
