If you work in a Register Office you may be interested to know about a ‘Supplier Showcase’ event taking place on 14th October at the Moat House in Stafford.

You will have a chance to personally speak to suppliers of new products and services that will help you to run your service or business more efficiently, add value to your services and generate that most important of commodities – extra income.

On the subject of making the most of your commodities, at 12 noon TownsWeb Archiving Ltd is scheduled to provide a 1 hour seminar entitled ‘Generating Revenue & Providing Access through Digitisation & Online Delivery’.

This FREE seminar will take you through the processes involved in the scanning and transcribing of your historical records and then placing the records online for the public to access.

The presentation will provide technical advice with regards to image file formats and meta-data capture before providing live internet demonstrations of how the public currently access similar records free of charge or on a chargeable basis.

There are still some free places available at regional Public Library seminars in London, Bristol, York, Manchester and Glasgow.

The seminars are titled ‘GOOD, BETTER, BEST’ and will be providing ideas and inspiration as to ‘How public libraries are creating their own future.’

Speakers will be discussing and answering the following questions:

How can public libraries take cost out of the service infrastructure without damaging frontline services?
How will libraries continue to invest in service development while reducing overall running costs?

New technologies are enabling more libraries to make their resource available online and open all hours, saving staff and space costs. Townsweb Archiving offers an update on how libraries are digitising reference material, local history resources, photographs and documents to provide enhanced online library services, greater public access and potential income streams.

This series of regional seminars brings together expertise from some of the leading technology and service companies in the library sector to explore changing roles, different ways of working, and new models for service delivery, along with an update on new products and technology.

Early in July we exhibited at the Federation of Burial and Cremation Authorities Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon.

It was great to catch up with some familiar faces and to say hello to some new ones too…

We were told that the discussion papers were very interesting and that it was a very worthwhile event for all delegates.

The TownsWeb Archiving stand was very busy. We like to think that it was because we are offering some great services – however, we’re also aware that people were interested in claiming their FREE give-aways, FREE glasses of wine, FREE chocs and also hoping to win the Champagne!

We would like to announce that the winner of the Champagne Prize Draw went to Mary Slinn at Cheshire East Council…
